Artist's Description
This portrait of David Thewlis was the hardest to resolve in terms of getting a clear likeness. Some people are simply hard to nail down in this respect. It may be due to his soft features. I had similar issues in getting a likeness of Johnny Depp. I think that good looking people do tend to be tougher subjects when it comes to creating an accurate portrait. Part of the problem is they often have few unusual features to grab on to when trying to get that last bit of accuracy in the finished art.

I am an illustrator, a storyteller, and a fine artist. I am happiest when I can be all three at once. I think illustration is a spectrum of storytelling genres and I like to think that each of works of art are little pieces of my own ongoing story. When I ask myself what is illustration today I feel like it is the big question that covers so many ways to create images. Illustration is and always will be about storytelling whether, it overlaps into what most would call fine art or fan art, or it takes the form of graphic novels or editorial work.
