Thinking of quilts and cubists on this one as I tried to re-create that feeling of late October light as the leaves are in full turn. I teach my students to illustrate with type like this, as though they were using any other important tool of composition.

I am an illustrator, a storyteller, and a fine artist. I am happiest when I can be all three at once. I think illustration is a spectrum of storytelling genres and I like to think that each of works of art are little pieces of my own ongoing story. When I ask myself what is illustration today I feel like it is the big question that covers so many ways to create images. Illustration is and always will be about storytelling whether, it overlaps into what most would call fine art or fan art, or it takes the form of graphic novels or editorial work.
